The investor of Aupark Košice will preserve the historical heritage in the center of the town
Construction of Aupark shopping center in Košice has been synchronized with an archaeological research without any impact on finishing of the project as scheduled.

HB Reavis Slovakia, the investor of Aupark Košice, has announced yet in this February that according to the expectations relics of stone walls had been found during the excavation works at Námestie osloboditeľov (square). In these days a terrain part of detailed archaeological research under the supervision of Regional Monuments Board in Košice is completed. Discovery of the archaeological team confirms that the findings are a groundwork fragment of construction of a modern military fortification – Košice citadel. The research uncovered front parts and partially also a side of the bastion, which having been called “Leopold”.

“We are glad that in the course of construction we managed to uncover a part of a history of the town. Since the very first day of the discovery we have been supporting, together with the town of Košice, to the whole archaeological team and to the Monuments Board and we share their opinion of preserving this historical artefact for the next generations. Experts claim that due to the construction work the findings could be temporarily transferred. Consequently, it is required to preserve a material nature of the findings “in situ” - in its current location - in a way in which it could be accessible and comprehensible to the public. We are sure that this historical item will make the Aupark shopping center even more attractive for people and therefore it will become a place of frequent visits. The construction of the center is in progress as scheduled with regqards to the preservation of the archaeological findings in terms of government supervision instructions,” said the HB Reavis representative, Roman Karabelli.

When completed, on three floors and almost on 34 thousand square metres, the Aupark Košice project will offer 161 premises and 1,100 parking lots, and also more than 11 thousand square metres of leasable office space of the highest standard. At last but not least, the centre will create hundreds of job opportunities. According to the investor estimated total cost of the construction amounts 93 millions EUR (2.8 billions SKK). At the same time the investor will build a modern four-way public communication at Námestie osloboditeľov (square) and therefore it will contribute to the smoothness of traffic in the town center.
